The Practice

Stone & Spring is a landscape design studio based in Texas and New York.

Stone recalls the dignity and durability of the material as well as the geologic time frame present around us at all times. Spring harkens the season of growth and change - blossoms of new life and possibility, both in the material world and our way of engaging with it.

At Stone & Spring, we focus on designing the following:

Temperate, semi-arid, and subtropical gardens, estates and landscape-oriented projects.

Planting, paving, grading and stormwater management (from complex urban lots to large-scale experiential landscapes such as resorts, ranches and vineyards)

Interior-exterior connections and experiences

Shade structures, sunrooms, bridges, and terraces

Water features - pools, ponds, fountains, spas and outdoor showers

We work virtually, visualizing compelling designs for clients and stakeholders, and in the real world, coordinating project teams and overseeing the fabrication and installation of the work.

Stone & Spring is led by design professional and licensed landscape architect Kate Rodgers. In 2023 Kate pivoted from managing a range of projects for high-profile design firms in New York City and Miami, to pursuing her own trajectory as a designer and founder. Alongside Stone & Spring, she teaches Architecture Studio and Landscape Theory at the University of Texas San Antonio. Kate has an undergraduate degree in Architecture, a Master’s Degree in Landscape Architecture & Regional Planning, and is licensed in New York and Texas.
